DeLanee's Story

10 years ago, Becky and Tommy, were blessed to be pregnant with their second child. Shortly thereafter they learned that they were going to be parents to a little girl, but the probability of their daughter living for very long was extremely low. Their daughter was diagnosed with a condition called Dandy-Walker Cyst. The doctors believed that their baby girl would deteriorate and pass away during pregnancy, but much to their surprise DeLanee developed until 28 weeks gestation when she was delivered and lived for three hours. As you can imagine, these 3 hours was precious time that they spent as a family with their daughter taking pictures, bathing, dressing and holding her until she passed away in their arms. Upon DeLanee's passing, the nurses brought the family a box to put their daughter’s belongings in to take home with them. Because DeLanee was born in January the nurses were able to find a leftover Christmas box. That Christmas box became extremely special to them and they clung to it and the contents inside that held their daughter’s precious belongings as they left the hospital without their baby. It was because of this box that the inspiration for Lanee’s Legacy began. . .

Spirit of Giving

Tonight I opened up an e-mail telling me that we had received a donation. Attached to that donation was a tender note from a very sweet lady who lost her baby ...last week. Just days before Christmas. What were you doing a week ago? Were you finishing decorating your house for Christmas? Buying gifts for your family and friends? Baking and cooking for the big day? I can't help but think of this sweet woman that while the rest of the world was caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations, she was saying hello and goodbye to her precious baby. I know for her that it seemed like the world should have just stopped. It should have paused and recognized the weight of the event she was enduring. Someone very important and precious came and changed her life and then exited so quickly while the rest of the world celebrated. My heart is so heavy in thinking about her and what she went through at this time of year. She wrote to us that the box was a "source of comfort during a very difficult time". How I hope she felt the love that our volunteers pack inside those boxes. How I hope that she felt that she was NOT alone. How I hope that she was surrounded with loved ones that were there to lift her up and support her. How I hope she knows that WE CARE about her.

I have been thinking a lot about the birth of Christ this season, but especially about His mother.....Mary. Her baby did not pass away at birth, but she knew that he was a king and that he came to save the world. She knew what His mission would be and that He would endure the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind. That quiet night that He was born and she bundled Him up and held Him close makes me contemplate all that she must have been feeling. I wonder if Mary and this sweet woman who lost her baby last week didn't share similar feelings? Mary knew her baby would ultimately die, but I know she must have held him so close and felt so blessed to be His mother. I wonder if time stood still for her as it did for this mom last week? That blessed night that the Savior came He was hers to love on and adore. He would go on to set an example for the entire world, but for that ONE night, He was just hers to hold close.

This Christmas season has been so wonderful to reflect upon the gift that the Savior is to ALL of us in our lives. He died so that all mankind may live again. He is the gift to all of us including this sweet mom who lost her baby last week. This knowledge is the only comfort during such a difficult time. I am grateful for this Christmas season and the sweetness that is felt through expressions of love, hope and the spirit of giving. I am grateful for everyone's donations this past year so that we may give a gift to someone who needs it at a most difficult time. I hope that this sweet mom and all other mom's that are grieving at this time have felt that love during this Christmas season. Our hearts are full of love and compassion for you. We hope that you can feel it.

Cigna chooses Lanee's Legacy!

Lanee's Legacy received some awesome news recently! Kristen Snair, who works for Cigna, received news that Cigna would be choosing non-profit organizations to donate $1,000 grant money to.  Kristen went to work entering our organization in this contest. After a few months, we found out that we are a winner!  This was a GLOBAL competition of non-profit organizations reviewed by CIGNA, so we feel pretty special to have received this grant.   We learned that there was nearly 200 companies entered and that they chose 50.  That means we were chosen over 3/4 of the organizations entered!

Thanks so much Kristen for your hard work in enrolling us in this contest!  Thanks Cigna for choosing us!!

A Blessed Day

Today has been such a blessed day. Although, the wish would be that this day never existed (where there was a cause to nationally remember babies that are gone too soon), it is a very beautiful thing to be able to share our babies in love and support. We have seen so much good including a beautiful room at Banner Desert Hospital being opened today which was sponsored by Sable's Wings, loving posts in support of those who have lost babies, tender and most precious pictures of these babies shared, and candles lit all across the nation in a continuous wave of light. Although, the baby loss community is not one that anyone would ever want to "volunteer" to join, it is one that we are proud to be a part of. So many wonderful examples of amazing people honoring their babies and living incredible lives. Thank you for letting us be a part of it with you!

October 15th.

"Healing Through Remembering" is Lanee's Legacy's slogan. We are advocates of recognizing and remembering our babies that died too soon. We are also advocates of this National Remembrance Day that has been set aside to create awareness regarding this topic. We are here to support those who have been touched by this type of loss. When a child dies, it doesn't matter how old they were, how much time they spent in their Mother's womb or arms, that child is and always will be greatly missed. It is a devastating loss. Nobody wants their child to be forgotten. Any parent would be greatly touched to know that someone cares enough to still remember and recognize their baby. On this day, October 15th, we honor all babies that have been lost. To parents who have suffered this kind of loss, we appreciate your example as you have reached out to us and we have been able to witness your strength as we have watched you honor your babies by the way that you live your lives.  We hope you have been able to feel our support and love for you. We come together with you today to honor and remember our babies that were gone too soon. We would love for you to comment here and let us know your baby(ies) name and how you will be recognizing them today.

Walk to Remember

We attended the "Walk to Remember" this morning that Banner Desert Medical Center hosts. It was such a wonderful event where hundreds of families come to remember and honor their babies. So many beautiful tributes were heard, stories shared and steps taken in loving memory. We had the chance to make new friends and see familiar faces as well. It was so tender for us to hear stories of the boxes and how they have been used and touched lives. Thank you to everyone that came to our booth, introduced yourselves, shared stories and donated. It was a wonderful day to share with you!

For those of you that donated a box in memory of your baby, we will be creating those boxes this coming Saturday, October 18th and will send you a picture shortly thereafter. Thank you!!

Day 8's Winner in our 15 Days of Giveaways

Patti Frazier is today's donator in our 15 Days of Giveaways. She is also the grandmother of this sweet little angel pictured here. Little Livi was still in utero when her mother was in a terrible car accident. Because of that accident, Livi, passed away. I think sometimes its easy to forget that losing a baby doesn't just effect the parents, but also other family members. For a grandmother, not only does she grieve the loss of her grandchild, but also feels helpless when watching her child(ren) experience something so painful and heartbreaking. It must be so hard to want to take away your child's pain and make everything perfect and right for them.....all while grieving the loss themselves.

Thank heavens for grandma's and their forsight on helping their child as they grieve. Had it not been for DeLanee's grandma, I'm not sure I would have done things like eat, or sleep, or had a clean house or any of those things that grandma's do so well. DeLanee's grandma was patient with me as I went through the grieving process and let me cry and be mad and talk about anything I needed to. When asked how many grandchildren she has, DeLanee is always counted amongst the others and hangs her picture on her Christmas tree with her other grandchildren. These are just some of the things she did to help me to heal....all while grieving herself.

Patti Frazier has always been an avid supporter of Lanee's Legacy and has done so many things for our organization that we have stopped counting. I know she has a special place in her heart for the type of work we do because of this sweet baby and her experience as a grandmother. Thank you to Patti and the way she so willingly shares her talents with our organization. Thank you to all grandmothers out there who quietly and gracefully help their child(ren) go through something such as this.

The winner of this darling craft is Lisa Olsen! Congratulations Lisa!!

Day 4's Winner of our 15 Days of Giveaway!

Before we announce who today's winner is, I just want to say how much I feel like today's prize in our 15 Days of Giveaways is extra special. Below you'll see a picture of a very incredible woman. Marni Bringhurst is a friend of Lanee's Legacy and is the donator of the adorable crafts we are giving away today. What makes this giveaway so special is that she is a mother who knows all too well what it feels like to have someone special come in and out of your life so quickly and the incredible impact it makes on your life. She knows how you never forget that sweet life and the moments you were able to share, however brief they might have been. She knows that no matter how much time passes that your love never lessens, the pain never stops and you never stop longing for that life. She knows how important it is to reach out to others and let them know that they are not alone and that there are those who care - which is exactly why she is today's donator. Marni knows all of these things and is simply amazing! She donates these crafts in memory of her sweet baby girl Allie Jane who was born on July 6, 2004. Thank you so much Marni!

Day 4's winner of our 15 days of giveaways is Carrie Strong!!  Congratulations Carrie!  Super jealous of these adorable crafts that you get to display during this Halloween season!  Enjoy!

What's up on tomorrow's line up?  An awesome bag of goodies that was put together especially for us by Trader Joe's!   Each $20 donation enters your name for a chance at this prize and the 10 prizes thereafter. We need your donations so that we may continue to help mothers. Mothers who do not yet know the things that Marni does....but will. We want to be there to help them through this difficult process. Your donation allows us to do that.

A very special lady!

Words just cannot express how we feel about the very special lady pictured here, Marlo Alder. Marlo lives in a rural part of Southeastern Arizona. Not only has she done tremendous things to help her own community and local hospital (Mt. Graham Regional Hospital), but her efforts have reached far and wide as hospitals all over Arizona have benefited from her service and support. In 2010, she held a box making with her church group and local college students from Eastern Arizona College. In 2011, she held a fundraiser in memory of her son called "Loops for Logan" which raised much needed funds for our organization. In, 2013 she drove a very long way to assist us with our "Remembrance Box Making" only to turn around and drive right back home (getting home very late). Now, in 2014 her and her awesome husband obtained a donation from Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold in the amount of $2,500.00!! This was something she worked very hard and diligently for as she accomplished all that was needed in order to continue to support bereaved families. Marlo - we love you! We love your kind and generous spirit and all the hard work you have committed to for families in need. You are truly an angel! Our biggest thanks to Marlo, her husband and Freeport McMoran for their amazing generosity!
